Recipients of the 2009 Freedom Awards presented by The Atlantic Council, gather on stage after the ceremony on November 8 at the Adlon Hotel in Berlin. The Atlantic Council gives the Freedom Award in honor of past and present heroes who defended and advanced the cause of freedom. The 2009 recipients are US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (on behalf of the American people), German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle (on behalf of the German people), Mayor of Berlin Klaus Wowerite (on behalf of the German people), Former President of Poland Lech Walesa, Vaclav Havel (in absentia), and Supreme Allied Commander Europe, Admiral James Stavridis (on behalf of NATO troops).
