An Antonov 124 transport aircraft will depart the Leipzig/Halle airport in Germany this Friday, 27 August carrying around 100 tons of relief goods to Islamabad. It will deliver power generators and water tanks donated by Germany, as well baby food donated by a non-governmental organisation. The transport aircraft lease is a contribution by Germany to the overall NATO effort to airlift humanitarian aid to Pakistan.

Baghdad– Since their mission began in 2007, the Italian Carabinieri have trained 8,296 Iraqi Federal Police, plus another 530 Iraqi policemen who are currently taking part in the 14th Leadership Training Course in Baghdad.

A NATO Trainer Cargo Aircraft departed Geilenkirchen airbase in Germany on Sunday 22 August with humanitarian aid to Pakistan. It will deliver relief goods such as water pumps, power generators and tents. The goods were donated by the Republic of Slovakia.

This week has seen the successful completion of a number of training courses. On Tuesday, 17 August, graduation ceremonies for 419 Afghan Border Patrolmen (ABP) took place at the Lonestar Afghan Border Patrol training site, Nangarhar Province.

The number of civilians killed or injured in Afghanistan has jumped 31%, despite a fall in the number of casualties caused by Nato-led forces. More than 1,250 civilians were killed in the first six months of 2010 and another 1,997 civilians were injured, the latest UN six-monthly report shows.

In a positive development for the country's rapidly expanding security capability, the Afghan National Army announced August 10 at the Ministry of Defense that it reached the benchmark strength of 134,000 soldiers two months ahead of schedule.
