On Thursday, 25 Feb 2010 NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), Admiral James Stavridis made his first visit to NATO's Maritime HQ based at Northwood, London. Northwoods commander, Admiral Sir Trevor Soar, welcomed SACEUR to the headquarters.

Afghan forces are increasingly taking the lead when dealing with local security issues in central Helmand as the stabilisation phase of Operation Moshtarak around Nad 'Ali continues. The Afghan Gendarmerie are deployed in several new communities, with an additional 100 officers expected soon.

Admiral James Stavridis,, Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), visited Spain 22nd – 24th February at the invitation of General Julio Rodriguez, Chief of Defence of the Spanish Armed Forces. During the visit, he also had an audience with His Majesty King Juan Carlos I and met Mrs Carme Chacón, Minister of Defence.

A delegation of Africa Union (AU) high-level officials and senior officers, headed by Mr. Sivuyile Thandikhaya Ban, Director of the AU Peace Support Operations Division visited SHAPE on Feb. 19. The delegation received presentations and briefings on SHAPE, ACO operations and NATO/AU activities with the aim of enhancing understanding and facilitating cooperation.

KABUL, Afghanistan - Yesterday, Governor Gulab Mangal travelled to Marjah to observe Operation Moshtarak. During his visit an Afghan flag was raised over the town, and the governor met with some of the combined-force servicemembers who are conducting counter-insurgent operations.

The clearing phase of operation Moshtarak continued yesterday, with the combined forces conducting a number of mounted and dismounted patrols. Elements of the combined force have been engaged in periodic small arms fire fights, and a number of insurgents have been either killed or detained.

The Interior Ministry and the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) are conducting a joint investigation in the incident in Paktiya Province in the Gardez district near the village of Khatabeh. A joint Afghan-international security force found the bound and gagged bodies of two women and dead bodies of two men in a compound during an operation.

Supreme Allied Commander Europe, Admiral James Stavridis, made his first official visit to Belgrade, Serbia on 11 and 12 February 2010 to establish personal relationships and strengthen cooperation and partnership.

On Sunday 7th February 2010 Danish warship HDMS Absalon, part of NATO's counter-piracy Operation Ocean Shield, had another encounter with pirates in the Gulf of Aden.
