Exercise Cooperative Lancer has entered phase two. During phase one, participants received training in the areas of first aid, mine awareness, vehicle searches and patrolling. Phase two will focus on collective training like reacting to roadside bombs, conducting operations in urban environments and establishing checkpoints.

A NATO spokesperson has a difficult job and must have the skills to communicate his commander's policies and stances on a variety of issues. The spokesperson's words and actions are dissected by the world media and the manner in which he represents his commander can influence the level of host nation support for a NATO mission and future operations.

As part of the ongoing NCO Development Program, a briefing was held on "Senior Enlisted Leadership in the ISAF Environment" on Tuesday, 28 April 2009 at SHAPE.

On April 28th 2009, military representatives of five NATO nations, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Portugal and Romania and SHAPE signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) establishing the Civil-Military Cooperation Capability (CIMIC) which will act as a bridge between Alliance forces and civil agencies. Maj. Gen. Rudy Wright, Deputy Chief of Staff of Operations, concluded the signing ceremony by expressing the hope that other NATO nations will participate in the initiative; increasing Allied Command Operation's ability to interact with civil organisations and enhancing its peace keeping and crisis response missions.
