SNCO

Leaders,
Myself and my good friend CSM Ludek Kolesa (CZE Army), want to inform you that on 13 October 2010 at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, the Supreme Allied Commander Europe, Admiral Jim Stavridis and theSupreme Allied Commander Transformation, General Stephane Abrial signed the first-ever NATO NCO Strategy and Recommended NCO Guidelines for the NATO Alliance.

"These NCOs already possess core NATO values as professionals acting with civility, confidence, expertise, pride, determination and complete honesty in their endeavours”, says Command Sergeant Major Michael Balch, the Allied Command Operations (ACO) and Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) Senior Enlisted Leader (SEL), after observing for three months what international ACO Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) have in common.

The topic of CoEs (Centres of Excellence) came up the other day during the ACO's Senior Enlisted Leader portion of the SACEUR's Commanders Conference with JFCs & components. I sensed many did not have a great deal of knowledge about these efforts as they relate to NATO.

The topic of reading list came up during my brief at the SACEUR's Commanders Conference with JFCs & components.

As members of Allied Command Operations, the NATO Alliance, and/or Alliance/partner nations we should become familiar with the thoughts of others and understand points of views different from our own. This reading list contains both classic and new perspectives on NATO, its history, its relationships, and a look into the future.

United States Army Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Michael M. Balch became the Senior Enlisted Leader at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) on 27 August, replacing U.S. Army CSM Michael Bartelle. He is the third Senior NCO to serve in the position.

As part of the ongoing NCO Development Program, a briefing was held on "Senior Enlisted Leadership in the ISAF Environment" on Tuesday, 28 April 2009 at SHAPE.

Command Sergeant Major JFC Naples Thilo Gnoerich hosted a non-commissioned officer (NCO) Development and Training Workshop in Naples on 16 January.

NATO announced today that 2008 would be dedicated to recognizing the vital role played by Non Commissioned Officers within the Alliance.

"Our NCOs are an integral link in the chain of command and leadership in NATO. We cannot conduct our important missions without them,” said Supreme Allied Commander Europe General John Craddock.
