NATO’s POLICE OPERATIONAL MENTOR AND LIAISON TEAMS (POMLTs)

May 2011
The Police Operational Mentor and Liaison Team (POMLT) programme is an important part of NATO-ISAF's contribution towards the development of the Afghan National Police (ANP).

• POMLTs are composed of 15-20 personnel from one or several countries. Each POMLT is normally deployed with an Afghan unit for a minimum period of six months.

• POMLTs coach, teach, mentor, provide the conduit for liaison, and when necessary, support the operational planning and employment of the ANP unit to which they are aligned in order to support the development of a professional, sufficient and self-sustaining ANP.

• NATO currently fields 42 POMLTs. The NATO-ISAF POMLT programme works in complement with other nationally-led teams, which perform similar duties.
