On 23 Feb, 2011, Lieutenant General William CALDWELL answered media questions about NATO Training Mission Afghanistan. The issues discussed ranged from the progress that has been made since the mission was established, recruitment, retention and bolstering literacy amongst those recruits. Lt. Gen. Caldwell also discussed NATO's contribution to the mission and where the mission goes from here.

Admiral James Stavridis, Supreme Allied Commander Europe and Commander United States European Command travelled to Kosovo on Friday, February 18th to visit KFOR troops and receive an update on current operations.

Ramstein – From 4 to 15 April 2011 the NATO Combined Air Operations Centre (CAOC) Uedem will conduct Exercise Ramstein Dynamo 2011 (RADO 11) in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, in the Uedem, Kalkar, Weeze and Mönchengladbach area.

The Afghan air force received an addition to its forces with the arrival of the tenth C-27A Spartan transport aircraft at the Afghan Air Force Base in Kabul Feb. 20, marking the halfway point in the Afghan Air Force's C-27 fleet as it continues to build to 20.

Last week, Exercise Proud Manta 2011 came to a conclusion after two weeks of intense Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) activity. Ten NATO nations provided six submarines, 19 aircraft (including ship-borne helicopters) and eight surface ships for NATO's largest annual event of this type.

BAGHDAD, Iraq – NATO Training Mission-Iraq (NTM-I) conducted a graduation ceremony for 136 Iraqi policemen who completed the second Oil Police training course at Camp Dublin Feb. 10.

Early on Friday morning, the Danish warship HDMS Esbern Snare, part of NATO's counter piracy mission, OPERATION OCEAN SHIELD, freed a hijacked fishing vessel in the Somali basin.

NTM-A Commander LT GEN Caldwell presents his vision to unify and guide NTM-A efforts in 2011. Focus will be on five critical areas: training Afghan trainers and instructors; accelerating leader development; building literacy and vocational skills; inculcating an ethos of stewardship; and developing enduring institutions, systems and enablers.
