Allied Joint Force Command Lisbon (JFC Lisbon) hosted the annual NATO Legal Conference on 24-27 October 2011, with the theme "Partners, Cooperation and Ad Hoc Relations”. The Conference brought together more than 120 representatives from 46 NATO Legal Offices located in 23 countries as well as senior legal advisors and officials representing NATO and non-NATO countries.

Baghdad, Iraq – Deputy Commander of NATO Training Mission – Iraq (NTM-I) Maj. Gen. Giovanni Armentani met with United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General (political) Mr. Jerzy Skuratowicz, as well as police and military advisors at UNAMI Headquarters on 26 October 2011.

Naples 26 October 2011. "On 26 October 2001 - ten years ago today - Operation Active Endeavour (OAE) was formally activated. It was a clear and solid demonstration of NATO's resolve and solidarity against terrorism," said Vice Admiral Rinaldo VERI, Commander Allied Maritime Command Naples and Commander OAE. Off the coast of Spain, near Cartagena, NATO carried out a 12 day submarine rescue exercise this year, running between 30 May - 10 June 2011. It has now been announced that a documentary, filmed by the Discovery Channel with NATO during the planning and execution of the exercise, will soon be broadcast worldwide.

KABUL, Afghanistan – The Kandahar Fire Department, in conjunction with the 683rd Army Fire Department detachment continued basic three-level training with Afghan Air Force Airmen on base recently.

The Belgian-Netherlands Mine Warfare School (EGUERMIN) traditionally hosts the biennial NATO Exercise "DYNAMIC MOVE” (DME). Organized by the Allied Maritime Component Command, MC Northwood, Dynamic Move is a Computer Assisted Exercise (CAX) designed to train the participants from NATO and national commands, including PfP nations.

HERAT, Afghanistan (Oct. 22, 2011) – After receiving the initial training aircraft for the Afghan Air Force (AAF) Undergraduate Pilot Training (UPT) last month, the first three of six new Cessna C-208B advanced trainers have arrived at Shindand Air Base.

Baghdad, Iraq – The graduation ceremony for the English Language Training - Train the Trainer course (ELT T3) took place on Thursday 20 October at the Defence University for Military Studies (DUfMS).

Since the first course in 2004, the Joint Warfare Centre has provided bi-annual Iraqi Key Leader Training at Ulsnes to assist Iraqi Security Forces in the restoration of sustainable security institutions and processes in order to establish, take over and maintain security in Iraq.

Following NATO's successful release of the pirated Italian merchant vessel, MV Montecristo, earlier last week, the naval units contributing to NATO's counter piracy operation succeeded in locating and disrupting the suspected pirate mother ship responsible for the attack.
