On January 27^th the Deputy Commander of NTM-I (NTM-I DCOM), Major General Claudio Angelelli met the Director General of International Policy, Iraqi National Security Council, Mr. Hamza Hassan Shareef al Jaboury, on FOB UNION III. Mr. Hamza came to discuss Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Mailiki's request for NATO to continue providing support for the ISF beyond 2011.

This morning Dutch warship HNLMS De Ruyter, part of NATO's counter piracy operation Ocean Shield, freed the crew from merchant vessel New York Star after they had barricaded themselves in to a ‘safe room' (known as a citadel), when their ship came under attack by pirates yesterday.

Danish warship HDMS Esbern Snare - part of the NATO's counter piracy mission - Operation Ocean Shield, yesterday rescued 2 men from a life boat after they had fled from their ship, Motor Vessel (MV) Beluga Nomination after an attack by armed pirates on Monday 24 January.
