Army Lt. Gen. Daniel P. Bolger Assumes NTM-A/CSTC-A Command

KABUL – Army Lt. Gen. Daniel P. Bolger assumed command of NATO Training Mission – Afghanistan (NTM-A) and Combined Security Transition Command – Afghanistan (CSTC-A) from Army Lt. Gen. William B. Caldwell, IV, during a change of command ceremony Saturday at Camp Eggers, Kabul.

Bolger served as the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-3/5/7, HQDA, Washington D.C., from Apr. 2010 to Nov. 2011. From 2008-2010, Bolger commanded the 1st Cavalry Division in both Fort Hood, Texas, and Iraq, where he served as the Commanding General, Multi-National Division and United States Division both in Baghdad supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF).

"I'm honored to join this great team. We are many that were unified by one mission: to help the Afghan National security forces to defend their country, ” said Bolger. "We will do so, the way we've always done so, Shohna ba Shohna, Ooga pa Ooga, Shoulder to Shoulder.”

In addition to the distinguished highlights of his military career, Bolger is also an accomplished author, having written and published several books, including: "Dragons at War,” "Americans at War,” Savage Peace,” "The Battle for Hunger Hill,” "Feast of Bones,” and "Death Ground.”

Caldwell assumed command of NTM-A/CSTC-A Nov. 2009. He's been nominated for command of U.S Army North.

Activated in 2009, NTM-A is a coalition of 37 contributing nations charged with assisting the Government of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (GoIRA) in generating a capable and sustainable Afghan National Security Force (ANSF) ready to take lead of their country's security by 2014.
