CAMP MIKE SPANN, Afghanistan – The Afghan National Army assumed responsibility for Phase 1 of a building project from the United States Army Corps of Engineers July 1 at Sheberghan Camp Monitor, Sar-e-Pol Province.

Phase 1 of the two-phase project included 24 buildings which will house the ANA's 3rd Kandak, 1st Brigade, 209th Corps. The buildings range from barracks and bathrooms, to administrative offices and laundry facilities.

Members of the End User Monitor Team, based at Camp Spann, walked through the completed site with members of the ANA's 209th Corps before sitting down to review the paperwork and apply signatures.

"The ANA who will move here are responsible for pulling security of (Sar-e-Pol) Province and the districts,” said Azem through an interpreter. "We have moved in one platoon of soldiers. The rest will follow when the (dining facility) is complete.”

The contractor defaulted on Phase 1 of the build by failing to complete the Dining Facility. The DFAC building has been rebid and accepted by a different contractor who is scheduled to complete the project by September. The completion date for Phase 2 is still to be decided.
